In the wake of the transition to online training due to the COVID-19 pandemic, California community colleges have become overrun with “fake students, bots” and allegations of financial aid fraud.
Kim Rich is a professor of criminal justice and the department chair for Political Science, Administration of Justice, Economics, and Chicano Studies at Los Angeles Pierce College in Woodland Hills, California. Between 2008 and 2010, Rich worked as a professor on a part-time basis. She has been employed on a full-time basis since 2010. When the COVID-19 pandemic hit in March of 2020, Rich was tasked as a distance education specialist to help train faculty in the transition to online classes. Kaiser Permanente, Workers Reach Tentative Deal to Avoid Strike

A tentative deal was reached Nov. 13 between Kaiser Permanente and union leaders that will prevent a strike by thousands of nurses and other health care workers who were planning to hit the picket line Nov. 15 at Kaiser facilities across Southern California and beyond.
Kaiser and the Alliance of Health Care Unions agreed on a four-year contract covering nearly 50,000 health care employees in 22 local unions, according to union spokesman Jeff Rogers.
“The Alliance of Health Care Unions fought to preserve a Kaiser Permanente where patients can count on excellent patient care and service. This has guided our work for 24 years. This agreement will mean patients will continue to receive the best care, and Alliance members will have the best jobs,” said Hal Ruddick, executive director of the alliance. “This contract protects our patients, provides safe staffing, and guarantees fair wages and benefits for every Alliance member.”.. California School District Votes To Defy State’s Vaccine Mandate

A school district in California voted unanimously to defy the state’s pending COVID-19 vaccine mandate for students and staff.
The Board of Trustees of the Calaveras Unified School District, which is comprised of ten schools and serves more than 2,800 students, voted 5-0 not to “support, enforce or comply with” the mandate, which is still pending. The board announced its decision to parents via Facebook. The vote applies to both students and staff. The board also moved to put the topics of mask mandates and testing protocols for COVID-19 on the agenda for the board’s upcoming meeting on November 23… (Excerpts from the Daily Wire)

76% of Americans think Facebook making society worse, CNN poll says

Three-quarters of Americans think Facebook is making U.S. society worse and nearly half say they know someone who was led to believe a conspiracy theory due to content on the social media platform, a CNN poll conducted by SSRS said Wednesday.
The belief that Facebook harms society, 76% to 11%, holds firm even among regular users, at 70% to 14%, although there is a bit of a split over whether the website itself is to blame for society’s ills.
Among those who think it is problem, 55% say the cause is the way people use the platform while 45% believe it is due to how Facebook is run… (Excerpts from the Washington Times)

USC Professor Refuses To Remove Pro-Police Flag Despite Student Protest

A professor of engineering and policy at the University of Southern California is refusing to remove a pro-police flag from his office door despite protests from students.
USC professor James Moore has had the flag, an American flag with a “thin blue line,” on his door since the beginning of the fall semester — but he has recently come under fire for it. Moore told The College Fix in an interview that he first received a complaint from a university administrator who called him and suggested that he take the flag down. Then, last week, an article in the university’s campus newspaper, the Daily Trojan, labeled the display a “controversy,” quoting several students who called the flag “inappropriate” and demanded the flag be taken down… (Excerpts from the Daily Wire)

San Francisco health officer says children 5-11 will be required to show proof of vaccination

Children ages 5-11 will soon be required to comply with San Francisco’s COVID-19 vaccine mandate in order to enter places such as restaurants or entertainment venues, according to a city official.
The San Francisco Department of Health and the UCSF Division of General Pediatrics held a town hall meeting on Tuesday in which they discussed the use of the vaccine for children ages 5-11, according to SFGATE.
